What's a LINk?

Havering Local Involvement Network (LINk)

A LINk has been set up in every area of England to help local people influence or change the way their local NHS and social care services are planned and delivered.

By being part of your local LINk you can make your voice heard and improve services.

  • A LINk is made up of individuals and community groups who work together to improve local health and social care services
  • The job of a LINk is to find out what people like and dislike about local services, and to work with the people who plan and run them to help make them better
  • This may involve talking directly to health and social care professionals about a service that is not being offered, or suggesting ways that an existing service could be made better
  • LINks also have powers to help them do their job and to make sure that changes happen
How we've helped
Havering LINk was instrumental in putting in place changing facilities and provisions for carers of patients with learning disabilities who are staying in hospital. Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust have now informed the LINk that these facilities have been extended to all relatives of adult patients and not just for those with learning disabilities.

The LINk asked BHRUT to put in out patients appointment letters warning them that they may be expected to change into dressing gowns. It has proved embarrassing for patients as they are then expected to wait in a mixed sex waiting room. The letter advises patients to bring their own dressing gowns.

The LINk was concerned about the lack of computer access on children’s wards, after visiting the ward in Queen’s Hospital their fears have been allayed and feel that the classroom is light and inviting. Computer access by a child’s bed would not be feasible because safe-guarding would be a problem.

Enter and View Visit to Sunrise Wards 22 April 2012

An unannounced visit took place on Sunday 22 April 2012, to Sunrise Wards A & B, Queen's Hospital.

This visit was a follow up to the unannounced visit which took place in October 2011. As a result of the visit in October Havering LINk made a number of recommendations. We are pleased to note that some of the recommendations have been set in place. We noted that from our visit in October there was a need for more Care Assistants to be employed to ensure that patients who require assistance with eating are fed in a timely manner. Havering LINk is pleased to note that the number of Care Assistants on the ward has doubled.  Please go to our "useful information" page to read the report.
